Firefighter Dies of Illness Working Dixie Fire

An assistant fire engine operator with the Lassen National Forest, who was suffering from a previous illness, died while working the Dixie Fire.

A firefighter working the devastating Dixie Fire has died.

CAL Fire reported that the deceased is an assistant fire engine operator with the Lassen National Forest, according to abc10.com.

The firefighter had been suffering from a previous illness and passed away Sept. 2, according to Sunday's incident update.

Three firefighters have been injured battling this fire, which started July 17 in TKTK.

The fire started July 17 and has consumed over 893,000 acres in and has burned into Plumas, Lassen and Shasta counties.
