Denver Firefighter Dies after On-Duty Cardiac Event

Denver Fire Department Technician Jeffrey J. Billingsley, 42, suffered a cardiac event while on duty Monday and died at a hospital.

A 19-year veteran of the Denver Fire Department died Monday after falling ill while on duty.

Technician Jeffrey J. Billingsley was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment, but did not regain consciousness and passed around 4 pm, the fire department shared in a statement.

Billingsley, 42, was assigned at Denver International Airport Fire Station #35. He was recognized for the 2004 rescue of three people from a fire.

Active while off-duty, he was a member of the Denver Fire Department Pipes and Drums Corps, and was a board member on the Denver Fire Department Burn Foundation.

He is survived by his girlfriend Lindsey Foster, his parents John and Margaret Billingsley, his brother Matt, sister Lisa, and nephew Henry.

According to KDVR.com, Billingsley suffered a cardiac event.

“The entire Denver Fire Department is reeling from this loss, and we extend our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of our brother who passed-away,” Fire Chief Desmond Fulton said in a statement.
