A veteran firefighter in a southern Ohio village bordering Kentucky and West Virginia lost his battle against COVID-19 earlier this month.
The U.S. Fire Administration announced on Thursday that South Point Volunteer Fire Department Deputy Chief Carl Frederick Kleinman, 55, died on Sept. 15 after being infected with the deadly virus while responding to numerous medical calls in late August.
According to USFA, Chief Kleinman was a 33-year veteran of the fire service, and a post on the South Point VFD's Facebook page says he was a fire instructor at the Collins Career Technical Center in Chesapeake.
Kleinman is survived by his wife, four children and one grandchild.
