The Columbus Division of Fire announced that a veteran firefighter recently passed away from COVID-19.
David Jarvis III, 55, had been fighting the virus for less than two weeks when he died, the fire department shared on Facebook.
Jarvis served in roles including a fire alarm dispatcher, rescue technician and was currently a member of the tactical EMS team supporting law enforcement operations.
He recently retired as a Master Sergeant with the Army Reserve where he has over 25 years of service, including multiple Middle East deployments.
Jarvis is survived by a wife and five children.
He is the third Columbus firefighter to die from the virus.
In September, 66-year-old Frank D. Duff, Jr. died after a monthlong battle with COVID-19. Less than a month later, 25-year veteran Greg Bauer succumbed to COVID-19.
