An accident involving a Salt River Pima-Maricopa Fire Department ambulance and semi-truck has left a firefighter dead and another in extremely critical condition.
The ambulance responding to a 9-1-1 call when they were attempting to turn left off of McDowell onto southbound on Beeline Highway when it was hit by the semi-truck going north, Arizona’s Family News reported.
Video from from the television station shows the ambulance's cab was torn off, coming to rest approximately 20 feet from the ambulance body.
Brendan Bessee was killed in the crash.
"He was very excited when he had the full-time offer for Salt River," Globe Fire Chief Gary Robinson told AZCentral.com. "He was very excited to be able to begin a career and start working in serving the community."
Tyler Packer was critically injured.
Both had been with the department for less than two months, according to local officials.
The driver of the semi-truck received minor injuries.
Officials with the Department of Public Safety are investigating the details of the crash.
