A South Clairborne firefighter was killed struck and killed while directing traffic at a July 4 event near North Tazwell.
Roger Estes, 77, was directing traffic on Highway 33 when he was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck, according to WKRN.com.
Ester, from the South Claiborne Volunteer Fire Department, was working at a holiday event when the tragedy happened.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said they are investigating the cause of the crash.
"Today, our neighboring department lost a member while assisting with traffic control. While many of the departments knew him, no one knew him better than his fellow members from south claiborne fd. Our thoughts and prayers are with them for comfort. Remember the family and department family in your prayers," the Tazwell/North Tazwell Fire Department shared on Facebook.
