The Newport Fire Department required a facility, in combination with the city hall and police department, that would be capable of combining its two existing fire halls into one building as well as allow for future growth.
Station 7 has a four-story training tower that includes a standpipe prop within the stairwell, with a rope rescue training area on the third- and fourth-level roof areas.
The station includes three apparatus bays, dormitory facilities for six crew members, and a training room for both fire district and community use.
