Paterson, NJ, Nov. 18, 2018—Crews from the third battalion were dispatched for a possible building fire and, upon arrival, found heavy fire was showing on the delta side of the 2½-story frame dwelling. Firefighters faced immediate challenges, with fire impinging on the exposure and the first hydrant found to be inoperable. An aggressive interior attack with several 1¾-inch handlines quickly knocked down the main body of fire; however, the fire had moved into the walls and extended into the attic. Due to structural instability, crews were forced to abandon vertical ventilation, and a 2½-inch line was used to extinguish the fire in the attic.
