RI Firefighter Hurts Shoulder Battling 2-Alarm Blaze

PROVIDENCE, RI—A firefighter was injured and three residents were displaced by a two-alarm fire at 937 Chalkstone Ave., that was called in at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Deputy Assistant Chief Stephen Capracotta said the firefighter was treated for a shoulder injury at Rhode Island Hospital and released Wednesday night.
Because a first-floor barbershop was open, firefighters entered through the door without having to break it. Except for some water, the shop in the Valley neighborhood escaped damage. The second and third floors, which housed three people who were not home at the time, had fire and water damage, Capracotta said.
It took 45 to 55 firefighters about an hour to stop the fire, he said. Investigators were still trying to pinpoint a cause when he left at 8:30 p.m.
Capracotta said there was no evidence of pets.
National Grid was asked to shut off power, so the barbershop might have to stay closed until power is restored.
