CT Department Evaluates Response to Fire that Injured FF

May 28, 2021
Over 40 members of the Rocky Hill Fire Department gathered to discuss procedures and walk through a call earlier this month that hospitalized a firefighter.

ROCKY HILL, CT—Ten days after a fire that hospitalized a firefighter, members of the fire department met Tuesday night to discuss what was done correctly and what could be done better.

A total of 42 members of the department gathered at headquarters around 7 p.m. to discuss the May 15 fire on Fieldstone Drive.

Fire Chief Michael Garrahy asked every member who had any leadership responsibility at the fire that day, one by one, to walk through their time of arrival, what they saw, where they were positioned, what actions they took and what procedures they followed, according to the department's chaplain, Pastor Ron Cox.

Once everyone in a leadership role spoke, the floor was opened up to allow everyone to share their observations, Cox said.

Earlier this month, after the Fieldstone Drive fire, Cox said one firefighter was taken to a local hospital and kept overnight for evaluation.

Douglas Clarke, the department's public relations officer, said fire crews responded to the Fieldstone Drive home around 4:30 p.m. on May 15 after a fire alarm activation.

Arriving units confirmed active flames coming from the home. The blaze was brought under control by 6 p.m.

No residents were injured.
