An FDNY firefighter was seriously burned battling a two-alarm fire in Brooklyn that left one person dead and injured at least six civilians early Tuesday.
The fire broke out just before 5 a.m. at a two-story building in the East Flatbush neighborhood, WNBC-TV reports. Over 100 FDNY firefighters from 25 units responded to the fire, which started on the first floor and was allowed to spread because of an open apartment door.
While battling the fire, a firefighter suffered serious burns to the neck and was taken to the hospital in stable condition. At least one person died of injuries from the fire and at least six others were hurt, including one seriously.
Crews worked for nearly an hour to get the fire under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
