With reports of people trapped in a Park Ridge house fire Thanksgiving morning, the city's fire chief said the fire had a "great" outcome.
Park Ridge and surrounding cities were dispatched to a fire at South Fairview Avenue and Gillick Street about 8 a.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the two-story home.
According to ABC7Chicago, 9-1-1 callers reported that people were inside the home.
“Immediately we began searches on all levels of the home. They are searching for people and they are also doing a fire attack. So there are two things going on right at once. It required a lot of resources,” Park Ridge Fire Chief Jeff Sorenson told WGNTV.
Command called a box alarm, bringing resources from a dozen fire departments to the scene.
“We also had cars in the driveway so that’s usually an indicator in an early morning fire that you have people home, especially on a holiday,” “It’s very stressful on the crews, especially when you go multiple minutes, they probably went 15-20 minutes thinking they had victims, they just weren’t finding them.”
Sorenson called the extent of damage serious, adding that the home was left uninhabitable.
“In the end, no victims, no fatalities, no injuries to any civilians or to any of our fire personnel, which is great, especially on Thanksgiving,” said Sorensen.
