Jan. 22--Firefighters rescued a man early Sunday evening after he used his cellphone to report that he had fallen about eight feet from a ledge near the south shore of Lake Worth.
The man was identified as Jeffrey Curry, 25, of White Settlement, according to a report from the Fort Worth Police Department.
Curry was unavailable for comment Monday, but WFAA Channel 8 interviewed him at the scene of the accident.
Firefighters got the call at about 5 p.m. Sunday, said Lt. Carol Jones, Fort Worth Fire Department spokeswoman. She said firefighters later learned the man had used his own cellphone to call 911.
"Initial information indicated that a man had been walking his dog when he lost his footing and fell approximately eight feet down the side of a cliff in a wooded area off Heron Drive," Jones said in a news release.
Six FWFD units responded, including three trained in technical rescues, Jones said. They subsequently found the man who was on his back.
"They quickly evaluated the patient's condition, stabilized his injuries and used a Stokes basket to move him," Jones said.
Curry was taken by MedStar to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, according to the police report.
In the WFAA report, Curry was shown on crutches following his release from the hospital. His dog, a blue heeler named "Max" was still missing Monday, WFAA reported.
