Ron Moore was given the Community Hero Award by The Steel Market Development Institute for his efforts to train firefighters.

Ron Moore, author of Firehouse's University of Extrication, was awarded in the inaugural “Men and Women of Steel” awards at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit last week.

The Community Hero Award was given to Moore by The Steel Market Development Institute for his innovative and in-depth research into extrication involving advanced high-strength steel.

Moore has author over a dozen articles and presented three webcasts for Firehouse on overcoming the challenges that firefighter face at today's vehicle accidents.

Also awarded was Elizabeth Krear, chief engineer on the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel truck.

“We’re very pleased to recognize Ron and Elizabeth for their use of steel in their work and community,” said SMDI President Lawrence W. Kavanagh. “Their accomplishments demonstrate how steel is much more than a material. It helps save lives...We’re proud of their efforts and hope their work continues to inspire others.”

The award came with a grant for Moore to use on vehicle extrication studies.
