Watch VA Firefighters Rescue Teen from Washing Machine

April 22, 2020
Prince William County crews were called when a Woodbridge teenager became stuck inside a home washing machine during a game of hide-and-seek.

A Virginia teen is opening up about a game of hide-and-seek that ended with her stuck in a washing machine earlier this week and a fire department rescue, NBC News reported Tuesday.

“We already had hid underneath the bed, in the closet, and we couldn’t go down to the basement,” Amari Dancy, 18, told the outlet about how she decided to hide in the washer on Sunday at the home in Woodbridge, Va. “I mean it’s pretty embarrassing, but all I can do is laugh it off. I had a laugh out of it, my family had a laugh out of it, I’m OK. As long as I’m OK, that’s all that matters to me.”

Eventually, she was discovered by a cousin, who told the adults.

The Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue came to save the day, arriving around 11 p.m. and took off the machine’s top so the teen could climb out without hurting herself, Dancy’s aunt, Suni Dancy, told the outlet.

Suni took to Instagram with a post documenting the rescue, with several photos and videos.

In one clip, the masked firefighters can be heard laughing as they find Dancy in the machine, and in another, several emergency vehicles can be seen outside the home.

“I was really worried to see if they were going to get me out or not,” the teen told NBC, who was “relieved” when the firefighters determined how to remove her.

“I just wanted to be out of there,” she said.
