FFs Rescue Driver from Overturned Car in Attic of LA Home

Nov. 13, 2022
The Zachary Fire Department found a car on its roof inside the home with the driver trapped.

Firefighters encountered unique and precarious technical rescue and extrication scenarios when crashed through a Zachary home, landing in the attic.

"Upon arrival crews found a single vehicle into the roof structure with the vehicle's roof into the attic," Zachary Fire Department posted on Facebook. "Crews worked diligently to locate a trapped occupant and safely extricate."

The driver likely suffered a medical emergency that lead to the crash around 5:25 Friday night, Zachary Police Chief David McDavid told WAFB.com.

“My grandmother assumed it was a transformer. I ran out of the door and saw a guy running from the park pointing towards the roof,” neighbor Brandon Lacoste told the television station.

McDavid said firefighters had to stabilize the vehicle and assess the home before beginning their extrication efforts, which required ground ladders to access the vehicle.

"Great communication and teamwork from all agencies on scene lead to the extrication of the occupant," the department shared.

Several children who were inside the home and escaped uninjured.
