A Florence Township firefighter who was critically injured while battling a tractor-trailer fire on May 31 is showing "miraculous improvement," according to a department news release.
Fire Marshal Brian Richardson remains in the ICU at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton but has been upgraded to stable condition.
He is conscious and able to speak with family and friends.
Richardson was one of seven firefighters injured on I-295 when a blast busted open the rear doors of the truck, striking them.
The other firefighters are recovering at home and five have been released back to duty status. The remaining firefighter is expected to be released back to duty status within the next few days.
Monday afternoon, Richardson sister, Jen, posted an update on a website the family setup to share information about his progress.
"Brian was able to get out of bed and sit in a chair today! He does have a major headache, which is to be expected . . . We cannot express our gratitude enough for all the visits, calls, posts, and help -- your support is so vital to his recovery and brings so much comfort to the family!"
