A Barstow firefighter was critically injured Sunday morning providing medical aid at an accident scene on Interstate 15 when he was struck by an unrelated vehicle.
The firefighter sustained major injuries after being hit by a vehicle driving at highway speed while crews were operating at an accident.
Fellow firefighters provided medical care and packaged him for air transport to Loma Linda University Medical Center via Mercy Air, according to a Facebook post by Barstow Fire Protection District.
The department is providing counseling for affected members.
