Severely Burned NC FF Headed Home after Month-Long Hospitalization

An Otto firefighter who was severely burned fighting a wildfire in February is headed home after more than a month in the hospital.

Otto Fire and Rescue’s Fire Chief Terry Rholetter is headed home after he was hospitalized for a month after being badly burned fighting a wildfire in February.

In a Facebook post the department said, “The surgeon, along with the physical therapist, are impressed with the way he is healing and walking. They notified the family Tuesday evening and confirmed it Wednesday that he will be getting discharged at 12 o'clock on Thursday.” 

Rholetter received several burns battling the wildfire and was flown to the Augusta Burn Center.

While hospitalized, Rholetter underwent multiple surgeries and skin grafts to repairs his injuries, after the surgeries Rholetter endured extensive rehabilitation efforts to regain his health.
