Lexington, NC, Firefighter Seriously Injured in House Fire
A veteran Lexington firefighter suffered life-threatening injuries at a house fire Tuesday morning.
Capt. Ronnie Metcalf suffered extensive burns after he became trapped in the house, WGHP reported.
He and others were engaged in an interior attack when conditions changed quickly. That's when an evacuation order was sounded
After crews emerged, it was determined that Metcalf was still inside, WXII reported.
Search teams went back inside the home and found Metcalf, who was treated by EMS at the scene for burn injuries. He was flown to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.
Metcalf, a 19-year veteran of the department was in stable condition, fire officials said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
