Paterson police are searching for a man who assaulted two firefighters after they responded to his call for help with breathing difficulties, authorities said Tuesday.
The incident occurred about 4:30 a.m. Sunday in a second-floor apartment in the 100 block of 16th Avenue, according to Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh.
Sayegh said the firefighters, who often respond to calls as emergency medical technicians, arrived to help a man who had reported breathing difficulties
The firefighters strapped him onto a stretcher to transport him to a local hospital.
But the man became upset, unstrapped himself and walked outside, Sayegh said.
When the firefighters followed him, the man allegedly punched one in the face multiple times and kneed the other in the face. He then fled the area and remains at large, Sayegh said Tuesday.
Anyone with information can call Paterson police at 973-321-1120.
