Firehouse Partners with Scott Firefighter Stairclimb
January 5, 2017 – Firehouse will serve as the official media outlet of the 2017 Scott Firefighter Stairclimb, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual fundraiser in which firefighters climb 69 floors of stairs at Seattle’s Columbia Center Tower. Firehouse will cover the event—which will be held March 12, 2017—to showcase the incredible physical effort being put forth by the nearly 2,000 participating firefighters.
“The partnership with Firehouse substantiates all of the work the firefighters have put in over the years to climb, conquer and cure blood cancers,” said Josh Buren, corporate development director for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Washington/Alaska Chapter. “They are such a dedicated group and greatly deserve the recognition that Firehouse brings to the partnership.”
The Scott Firefighter Stairclimb began 27 years ago as a small, local fundraising event for the Washington/Alaska Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and it has since evolved into one of the world’s most physically challenging competitions, attracting firefighters from all 50 states, Canada, Europe and the Pacific. Firefighters climb 788 feet of vertical elevation and 1,356 steps while wearing 50 pounds of structural firefighting gear—and on air.
“We’re proud to be partnering with our friends at Scott Safety and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for the 2017 Stairclimb,” said Firehouse Editor-in-Chief Timothy Sendelbach. “To support an event that highlights the competitive nature of firefighters working to help others while emphasizing the importance of their own health and wellness is extremely important to us. It’s truly an honor to become part of this event and we look forward to supporting the collective effort to stomp out cancer.”
The Scott Firefighter Stairclimb has raised over $14 million dollars since its inception. Funds raised have helped develop new, more effective, less toxic treatments for patients with blood cancers.
