FSRI Recruiting Technical Panel for New Fire Service Study
The Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI), part of UL Research Institutes, is recruiting a technical panel for the upcoming research project on firefighting strategies and tactics for multi-story residential structures, specifically modern townhomes and traditional rowhomes. In this study, researchers have designed and will construct these structures at our test facility in Sharon Hill, PA. A series of experiments will be conducted examining fire dynamics and firefighting tactics. FSRI hopes to gain a better understanding of fire growth and spread in these occupancies and their impact on victim survivability. In addition, researchers aim to examine the coordination of suppression, search, and ventilation tactics. The experiments will result in a series of technical reports with tactical recommendations to guide firefighters in responding to incidents in these structures.
We are seeking diverse candidates who bring professional experience in communities with townhomes and/or rowhomes. As a technical panel member, you will be directly involved with the design and selection of the experiments, participate in the data analysis, and assist in crafting actionable tactical considerations from the research to aid the fire service. Ideal candidates are open minded, collaborative, and eager to share their expertise, while also demonstrating a willingness to actively listen and engage with fellow panel members.
Expectations
This multi-year project requires at least three in-person meetings: an introductory planning meeting (in summer 2024), witnessing of experiment(s), and a summary meeting. FSRI will cover all travel expenses associated with these trips. We are not able to cover salary expenses for missed time as a result of attending the meetings. Permission to participate from your fire department's management is not required, but we highly encourage it.
Throughout the rest of the project, the technical panel will meet virtually to advise on research questions, experimental setup, technical reports development, and tactical considerations.
Apply by April 30th
To apply for the technical panel, please complete this form by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. The final panelists will be selected and notified by May 15, 2024.
