About a foot of water from tropical depression Imelda flooded a Caney Creek fire station Thursday, destroying files, a copy machine, two generators and the building's septic tank.

The firefighters returned to the station, located across from Caney Creek High School, Thursday morning to find about a foot of water covering the floor, said Fire Chief Raymond Flannelly, who oversees the Montgomery County Emergency Services District No. 9.

A fire engine and ambulance had to be reassigned to another station, he said. The water destroyed two generators and the septic system, as well as office files and a copy machine, he said.

"Today [the water] definitely took a toll on the rescuers," he said.
