The Charlotte Fire Department will be getting a new all-electric fire station and fire truck under the city’s budget proposal.
The City of Charlotte has set aside $20.8 million to construct the new all-electric Fire Station 30 and equip it with an electric apparatus as part of the city’s climate change agenda.
The electric fire station, complete with the necessary infrastructure will be one of the first in the country and is one of at least three fire facilities that is slated to be built, WSOC-TV reported. The $20.8 million is part of an estimated $48 million investment over three years.
City officials said the budget includes funding for one apparatus, charging equipment and additional building infrastructure to make it fully electric.
The Charlotte City Council will have to conduct an additional vote to authorize the purchase after the budget passes.
