Prince William County, Pa., Uses Motorola Solutions CAD System
When seconds can mean lives, public safety dispatchers in Prince William County, Va., are often the first contact citizens have in an emergency. Details obtained during sometimes frantic 9-1-1 calls can be crucial for first responders on the way to help. Motorola Solutions PremierOne computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system is another lifeline for first responders. It allows dispatchers to reliably communicate with police, fire and other emergency services so they can get to the exact location, in the shortest time possible, with all the critical information they need, to serve the citizens who rely on them.
The latest PremierOne technology takes interoperability, or the ability to communicate between different radio systems, to a new level with “CAD to CAD” functionality. It enables Prince William County dispatchers to manage an incident and share information with the other public safety agencies that support the region. Dispatchers can continuously update and send notifications while simultaneously entering information into the CAD system. PremierOne Mobile now allows first responders, dispatchers and call takers to prioritize information and make sure sometimes life-saving details are communicated to the right people at the right time.
“We didn’t want to simply implement a new computer aided dispatch system, we wanted to change how we operate on a day-to-day basis” said Scott Boggs, Battalion Chief, Prince William County. “Motorola Solutions’ latest improvements to PremierOne provide efficient communications and can be customized to fit our unique demands to help improve the safety of our officers and the citizens we serve.”
Prince William County’s PremierOne CAD system automatically verifies a caller’s address and displays a route on a map, giving the dispatcher the exact location. First responders en route to an incident use PremierOne Mobile to receive precise directions, background information about an address, nearby resources and other details that can help save lives.
Prince William County is one of more than 3,000 agencies nationwide served by Motorola Solutions’ innovative public safety software. The county handles about 400,000 emergency calls per year ranging from fire, emergency medical services and law enforcement. The dispatchers oversee the flow of information and provide aid, comfort and instructions to the public before the arrival of police, fire and rescue personnel.
“Managing staffing rosters, duty assignments and staff capabilities across multiple systems can be a challenge for public safety agencies,” said Tom Guthrie, vice president, Motorola Smart Public Safety Solutions. “Motorola Solutions’ latest PremierOne technology will assist Prince William County with this challenge and allow commanders and staff to maintain this information in one location while sharing it when and where it’s needed most.”
