Four people were injured when in an accident between a Detroit EMS unit and an SUV Sunday.

The accident happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. night as the Detroit Fire Department vehicle was taking a patient to the hospital, The Detroit News reports. The EMS unit was in a collision with an SUV, which crashed on a curb, according to WJBK-TV.

The collision sent the EMS unit through a wrought iron fence before finally barreling into a brick wall in a business parking lot. A witness then called 9-1-1 while a paramedic in the EMS unit helped the SUV driver.

"One of them (medics) got out, and I think he walked over here to see if the young lady was all right because she got out of the car and walked over to this fire hydrant and was laying in the grass," a bystander told WJBK.

The two medics and a 55-year-old patient in the EMS unit were taken to the hospital along with the 23-year-old SUV driver, according to the News. Their injuries weren't considered life-threatening.

The crash is under investigation.

Detroit Fire Department emergency vehicles have been involved in a variety of accidents during calls in the past few months.

On March 31, a fire apparatus collided with an SUV, sending the rig careening into a cargo van near a gas pump and injuring three firefighters and four other people. On Saturday, shots were fired at and damaged an apparatus after firefighters used the vehicle's air horn to get a car blocking the station's driveway to move.

In February, a Detroit firefighter was allegedly intoxicated when he struck an unoccupied vehicle with the apparatus he was driving to an emergency.
