Sherman Fire Department's new 22-foot-long fire/rescue boat includes a 550 gallon-per-minute pump and can feed water either to a deck gun or apparatus on shore.

SHERMAN, CT—Just in time for boating season came the arrival of the volunteer fire department’s new Marine 7 fire/rescue boat.

The landing craft-style boat, was purchased with fire department funds and made possible in part by “a generous donation from a local resident,” according to the department.

The fire department pulled its old Marine 7 boat from service last summer and put it up for sale with the lights, siren and radio removed.

The department’s new 22-foot-long boat features a 550 gallon-per-minute pump, 225 horsepower engine, and a drop-down bow gate for easy access when bringing someone on board directly from the water.

Not only can firefighters use the boat’s deck gun to attack fires directly, but they can also use the boat to feed water to trucks on shore.

Marine 7 serves the town of Sherman, as well as four other Candlewood Lake communities.

“Look for us out on the lake over the next few weeks as we continue to train on it and hone our skills,” the Sherman Volunteer Fire Department posted on Facebook over the weekend.
