KY FFs Treat Train Accident Victim

A person in Lexington was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Friday morning after being hit by a train, according to the Lexington Fire Department.

The incident was reported to the police and fire departments at approximately 9:10 a.m. Friday. It took place at the train tracks near the intersection of North Broadway and Loudon Avenue.

Lt. Joe Anderson with the Lexington Police Department said the preliminary investigation revealed a man was assaulted near the train tracks and was unconscious at the time of the collision with the train. Anderson said they didn’t know what kind of weapon, if any was used, during the assault.

“The subject advised that he was assaulted in the area of the tracks and was then subsequently hit by the train,” Anderson said.

The man suffered an injury from the assault on top of the injury from the train accident, per Anderson. The man was talking with police at the hospital.

Police are filing an assault report and are conducting a criminal investigation, according to Anderson.

Maj. Jessica Bowman from the fire department said firefighters were originally dispatched to the 800 block of North Broadway for an entrapment accident at approximately 9:10 a.m., but responding firefighters realized the accident involved a pedestrian and a train instead.

The accident isn’t impacting the traffic for the surrounding roads, per Anderson.
