ZOLL's X Series Defibrillator First to Transmit to CARES Registry
CHELMSFORD, MASS.—ZOLL Medical Corporation, a manufacturer of medical devices and related software solutions, today announced it will expand the interface between its X Series® Monitor/Defibrillator and the Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival (CARES) to include a full set of key CPR metrics.
The CARES Data Dictionary has been updated to include 14 measures of CPR quality and 5 additional time parameters associated with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest resuscitation. These CPR metrics include detailed measurements on how CPR is performed (rate, depth of compressions, pauses, etc.). The CPR metrics are designed to be collected by a monitor/defibrillator during the resuscitation and incorporated into a patient’s EMS health record.
Now X Series customers who participate in CARES can include CPR metrics and receive important feedback on how to improve their cardiac arrest outcomes. CARES was designed to help local EMS administrators and medical directors identify how they are responding to cardiac arrests and what changes can be made to improve outcomes. Its ultimate goal is to improve survival from sudden cardiac death.
The ZOLL CPR Metrics interface also extends to ZOLL’s ePCR partners, thus ensuring the same capability is available to all X Series users. ZOLL’s CARES-ready Guarantee assures both present and future X Series customers that a full set of CPR metrics can be transmitted to CARES.
“Keeping users at the forefront of high-quality CPR delivery has been a long-time commitment of ours,” said Jonathan A. Rennert, President of ZOLL. “This interface both opens the door to ZOLL customers benchmarking their CPR efforts, and gives them the chance to contribute to this most respected, internationally recognized registry.”
“High-quality CPR and defibrillation are the most important links in the Chain of Survival for victims of cardiac arrest,” said Greg Mears, MD, ZOLL Medical Director. “Our goal is to seamlessly integrate our products with the healthcare team to provide the best care and outcomes possible.”
The X Series combines the clinically superior therapeutic capabilities of ZOLL defibrillation, pacing, and CPR assistance with advanced monitoring parameters. Key among the X Series’ features is the unequaled ability to assist with improving CPR quality to keep oxygen-rich blood flowing. ZOLL’s proprietary See-Thru CPR® minimizes the duration of pauses in CPR to enable rescuers to see the underlying rhythm. ZOLL’s Real CPR Help® provides real-time CPR feedback, and a built-in sensor measures the depth, rate, and effectiveness of chest compressions.
The X Series also lets first responders assess the patient’s needs as soon as possible and wirelessly transmit critical information to a receiving hospital so clinicians are prepared when the ambulance arrives. Wireless transmission allows the EMS crew and hospital staff to work as a team and start treating the patient without delay.
