OKLAHOMA CITY – EMSA, Oklahoma’s largest provider of pre-hospital emergency medical care, recently launched a simulation-based education program called EMSA SimTEP (Simulation Training for EMS Professionals) marking a major industry advancement in the training of emergency medical professionals.

The simulation training features state-of-the-art technology including a 360-degree immersive simulation screen and high-fidelity interactive manikins. These tools provide real-time feedback, ensuring trainees receive immediate, actionable insights to improve their skills on the spot.

“The EMSA SimTEP program is one of the most significant clinical education initiatives I’ve seen in my 15-year career at EMSA,” EMSA President and CEO Johna Easley said. “By delivering customized training that strengthens skills, gives data-driven feedback and improves knowledge retention, we will continue to improve upon the excellent clinical care we provide each day.”

SimTEP, based in Oklahoma City, will be utilized by all EMSA staff, from new recruits in the academy to seasoned professionals undergoing protocol testing. The simulation room, built by WorldViz and equipped with manikins from Gaumard, can replicate a variety of scenarios, from pediatric emergencies to chemical burns.

"SimTEP will transform EMS training at EMSA by utilizing immersive environments and high-fidelity manikins that provide a realistic hands-on experience that will prepare professionals for real-world emergencies," Tina Mathes, EMSA Director Clinical Services said. “EMSA’s Clinical Educators are very eager to introduce SimTEP to our providers.”

EMSA will seek national healthcare simulation accreditation in the coming year from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
