Florida Firefighter Burned While Battling Blaze

A Marion County firefighter was burned while battling a house fire Saturday afternoon, according to The Star-Banner.Crews responded to the fire on 4834 SW 147th Loop in Marion Oaks at approximately 5:52 p.m.While worked to knock down the flames, a portion of the celing and roof fell on the neck and back of the firefighter, Department Spokesman Nick Fortuna told the newspaper.

Crews responded to the fire on 4834 SW 147th Loop in Marion Oaks at approximately 5:52 p.m.

While worked to knock down the flames, a portion of the celing and roof fell on the neck and back of the firefighter, Department Spokesman Nick Fortuna told the newspaper.

The injured firefighter sustained second-degree burns and was transported to Munroe Regional Medical Center in stable condition.

Five civilians inside the home were able to evacuate before crews arrived and firefighters were able to rescue a cat from the blaze.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
