Bear Repellent Spray Forces Colo. Evacuation

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. -- Someone accidentally spraying bear repellent in a suburban Denver hotel forced the evacuation of about 40 guests Sunday morning, a fire official said. One person was taken to a local hospital after the 11:20 a.m. Sunday incident at the Homestead Suites at 9253 Costilla Ave. in Greenwood Village, said South Metro Fire Rescue spokeswoman Becky O'Guin. A few other people at the hotel were complaining of watery eyes, runny noses and coughing, she said.

Someone accidentally spraying bear repellent in a suburban Denver hotel forced the evacuation of about 40 guests Sunday morning, a fire official said.

One person was taken to a local hospital after the 11:20 a.m. Sunday incident at the Homestead Suites at 9253 Costilla Ave. in Greenwood Village, said South Metro Fire Rescue spokeswoman Becky O'Guin. A few other people at the hotel were complaining of watery eyes, runny noses and coughing, she said.

Authorities offered no details on who released the bear spray or how the accident occurred.

O'Guin said no one will be allowed back in until the hotel has been cleaned. Hotel officials were looking for another place for guests to stay, she said.
