A former firefighter with the Lady's Island-St. Helena Fire District was sentenced to five years in prison yesterday for setting a series of blazes in 2007 and 2008.

A former firefighter with the Lady's Island-St. Helena Fire District was sentenced to five years in prison yesterday for setting a series of blazes in 2007 and 2008, according to The Island Packet.

Bryan Yeager, 24, pleaded no contest one day before his trial was set to begin.

One fire burned down a partially built house in Palmetto Bluff. The house on Headwaters Road was about 80 percent complete when it burned down on Jan. 12, 2008. Damage to the house was estimated at $1.4 million, according to the report.

He also was accused of setting four other fires.
