BOSTON --

An elderly man and a firefighter were hospitalized Saturday after the man was rescued from an icy pond in Lincoln.

Fire officials received a 911 emergency call at about 3:30 p.m. from a resident. The 89-year-old man, who is from Weston, had been submerged up to his neck in frigid water for about 15 minutes when rescuers located him near Twin Pond Road.

Firefighters pulled the man from the pond and used an ice rescue sled to transport him about 75 yards to the shore.

The man and a firefighter who helped rescue him were both being treated for hypothermia at Emerson Hospital on Saturday night.
