Firefighters responded to the scene on the 2700 block of Northwest 15th Street at about 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Authorities said no one was injured, but five businesses have smoke damage and one of the stores was heavily damaged.

The strip mall includes a supermarket, bakery, Laundromat, and a hair salon.

The owner of Coin Laundry said he has bad news for customers.

"I have a drop-off dry cleaning. All the clothing is damaged," Alvaro Manguia said. "The problem is how I pay that because I don't have insurance for the clothes."

Officials called the fire suspicious. NBC 6's Hank Tester reported that fire investigators believe the blaze started at Tadeo Supermarket.

"From what we can determine, where the fire was located was a pretty precarious spot, which indicates it might be suspicious in nature," said Ignatius Carroll of Miami Fire Rescue.
