HOUSTON --
Firefighters rescued a woman from her burning home in north Houston on Wednesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Houston firefighters responded to the blaze at a home on Walling Street near Norhill Boulevard at about 9:30 p.m.
"When units arrived on the scene, we had fire coming out the front door," firefighter Thomas Ponce said. "They managed to go in and knock it down real quick."
Rose Laskoskie was found unconscious in her bedroom, officials said.
Laskoskie was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital with second-degree burns over 15 percent of her body.
Her cats died in the fire.
Firefighters said they believe the blaze started in the front of the home.
One neighbor said the flames were so intense that he thought the fire might spread to his home. He used a garden hose to wet his property as a precaution.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
