INDIANAPOLIS --
Residents are saying "enough is enough" after a 13th arson in a neighborhood on Indianapolis' south side since May 23.
The 13th intentionally set fire torched a garage on Boyd Avenue Sunday morning, 6News' Rick Hightower reported.
That fire caused about $1,000 in damage, but neighbors said the dollar amounts don't mean much. They are worried a fire at a vacant home or garage will spread to a house where someone is sleeping.
Eddie Spears said he's keeping a close eye on what is happening in the neighborhood. Over the last three weeks, fires have been set at vacant homes and garages within blocks of each other -- all of them ignited in the early-morning hours.
"We watch. We don't get no rest," Spears said. "When these dogs bark we look, and my dad does and my son does."
No one has been seriously hurt in the blazes, but city officials said they are pouring resources into catching the arsonist.
"I can say IFD and IMPD -- we are working these cases as aggressively as possible. It is our top priority," said Indianapolis fire Capt. Gregg Harris.
Harris said police and fire shifts have been adjusted to be more proactive, but said residents will need to give them help to close in on whoever is responsible for setting the fires.
"The citizens of the south side have provided us with a number of pieces of information that have led to very good intelligence," Harris said.
People who live near the charred garages and burned, boarded-up houses are beginning to feel frustrated, unsafe and on edge.
"I think they're looking, but not hard enough. If so, they'd catch them," said Cathryn Holman. "There's been too many fires, and they need to catch them before somebody ends up dead."
Police asked anyone who sees anything suspicious in the area to call 911 or the Indiana Arson Hot Line at 800-382-4628.
Residents have also been asked to keep exterior lights on at night.
