MEDINA, Ohio --

A father of three was killed in an overnight house fire in Medina.

His children and two other children were able to escape after neighbors and a passerby pulled them to safety.

Police said the five children, ranging in age from 8 to 11, were trapped in the basement of the Sturbridge Drive home after it caught fire.

Enoch Wootton, 49, was found dead on the main floor of the home, which is where fire officials believe the blaze started.

The children managed to break out one of the basement windows, which alerted neighbors to the fact that the home was on fire and the children were trapped.

The neighbors and a 16-year-old boy who happened to be driving out at the time were able to pull the five children through the window to safety.

The children were taken to Medina General Hospital. They were treated and released.

The children's mother wasn't home at the time of the fire.

Fire officials still have no official cause on the fire but believe it was likely accidental.
