One of the most dangerous places for first responders and police is the highway.
Annually, many firefighters, police officers and EMS personnel are struck while performing their duties along the road. Safety is of utmost importance.
That's why two longtime partners - the Public Safety group of Cygnus Business Media made up of Firehouse.com, Officer.com and EMSResponder.com , and the Cumberland Valley Firemen's Association's Responder Safety Institute -- are joining in a new venture.
"We're hoping this new, expanded arrangement, the sharing of relevant content, will reduce the number of injuries to police officers, firefighters and EMS," said Steve Austin, project manager of CVFA's Responder Safety Institute.
Visitors to Respondersafety.com will see a new, bright look. "We've always shared content with Firehouse.com, and we look forward to promoting more on the law enforcement side. We'll be exchanging more police-related stories."
Since it's inception, Responsersafety.com has followed up on Cygnus news stories involving roadside incidents. The site has become a prime advocate of a high visibility vest which they designed and hope to have worn by every responder to roadside incidents.
Available on the site is a 90 second video entitled Accepting the Challenge to be Visible. The segment promotes the use of the breakaway public safety vest that RSI officials designed.
Christopher Hebert, publisher of Public Safety Interactive at Cygnus, said he was excited about the enhanced relationship between the sites. "We share the same mission - to protect responders. We're working together to get that message across..."
Hebert, who assisted Austin in getting the RS site started, sees the venture as a win-win for everyone.
"We've been very proud of Firehouse.com's relationship with ResponderSafety since its inception. This endeavor will be a terrific asset."
