A Christmas tree accidentally caught fire at a townhome complex in west Houston late Monday night, sparking a 2-alarm blaze that gutted more than one residence.

The fire broke out at the town home in 100 block of Litchfield near Memorial about 10 p.m., according to the Houston Fire Department.

No injuries were reported.

Fire officials said three units were destroyed in the blaze.

Investigators said radiant heat from a fire place or an ember from the fire place ignited the Christmas tree, which had been at the home for about 30 days. The blaze was ruled accidental.

Firefighters had trouble battling the flames because the town homes are close together and more personnel was needed.
