WENTZVILLE, Mo. -- Smoke could be seen for miles this morning as a four-alarm fire destroyed a Chinese restaurant in Wentzville.
The restaurant, Kwan Yin, is at 1603 West Pearce Boulevard. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No one was injured.
Firefighters from Wentzville have been on the scene since about 6:30 a.m., and summoned several neighboring jurisdictions as backup. At least a dozen departments helped as they brought the blaze under control by 9 a.m.
Wentzville police were first to arrive. They got a 911 call for an alarm sounding because of glass breaking, police say. An officer arrived to find the 3,400-square-foot building on fire.
The restaurant opened in 1972, according to the company's Facebook page. According to city records, it is owned by a Foristell man named Steve Lim.
Lim told authorities that he was the last one at the restaurant and left at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, said Assistant Fire Chief Robb Watkins of the Wentzville district.
