A Wisconsin firefighter died earlier this month from COVID-19, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

Dave Tomlinson, a firefighter and inspector with the Poynette/Dekorra Fire Department, had contracted the virus in November while performing inspections, the USFA said in an update Tuesday. He died Dec. 6.

Tomlinson, 71, had been with the department for 31 years and was "a familiar face in our Fire Prevention program," the department said in a Dec. 7 post on social media. He also was an Army veteran who served in Vietnam.

"He'd been instrumental in delivering fire service to our community, especially during the day hours," the department stated.

Tomlinson is survived by his wife, Jane, and his two children.
