Fire Breaks Out in N.C. Multiple Dwelling
A positive pressure attack was used to supress an Oct. 24 fire at a multiple dwelling in Rocky Mount.
Engine 2 arrived on scene at 2004 South Church St. to find heavy smoke showing from a two story multi-family dwelling. Command was established and a 5-inch water supply was secured.
Scene size-up was performed and the initial assessment determined one apartment unit was involved on the Division 1, C-side with fire threatening Division 2 and both adjoining apartments. It was unknown initially if any one was still inside any of the apartments.
Power lines to the building burned off early in the incident and posed a significant hazard for approximately 30 minutes until they were de-energized by CRM.
Initial attack crews entered the structure and began a positive pressure ventilation effort that was utilized in conjunction with fire attack.
Exposure to the other three adjoining apartments was checked which showed only smoke damage. A primary search of all four apartments was performed which was determined to be all clear.
An additional engine company was requested for manpower.
The fire was brought under control in just under an hour.
The apartment of the fire origin appears to be a total loss due to the fire, water and smoke damage and the American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance.
Units on scene: Engines 1, 2, 4, Ladders 10, 30, Squads 1, 2, Battalion Chiefs 1, 2 and Nash County EMS.
