CLEVELAND, Ohio — A 67-year-old man and a firefighter suffered injuries Wednesday in an apartment fire in downtown Cleveland.
The fire broke out on the 14th floor about 7:30 p.m. at St. Clair Place apartment building on East 13th Street and Superior Avenue.
Fire Lt. Mike Norman said it appeared to be an accidental cooking-related fire. He said the building’s sprinkler system doused the blaze.
A 67-year-old man severely injured and burned, according to Fran Lally, the firefighter union president. Lally also said one of his firefighters suffered unspecified injuries fighting the blaze.
Norman said it appeared the firefighter likely suffered from exhaustion.
That firefighter was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated and released. Lally said the firefighter is expected to return to duty soon.
