CA Department Forced to Shut Down for Lack of Insurance

March 28, 2022
The Chester Fire Department is temporarily shut down due to a lack of liability insurance.

The Chester Fire Department had to stop services last Thursday after due to a lack of liability insurance after the coverage had lapsed.

The lack of insurance has forced the Chester Public Utility District to stop services due to the lapse of coverage.

The utility district will meet on March 29 to discuss the temporary shutdown of the Chester Fire Department. Members of the board will meet in closed session and then update the public on the issue, according to a report by Plumas News.

A letter sent to department members from Adam Cox, general manager of the utility district and Fire Chief Bryan Lane, said the district was having a difficult time finding providers due to “numerous recent legal claims and settlements.”

As a result of this issue, CalFire and surrounding departments are providing fire coverage while Peninsula Fire District is providing EMS coverage.
