Police pursued a Dallas Fire-Rescue ambulance for nearly two hours after it was stolen from a fire station Monday.
The ambulance had been at Station No. 53 in the morning when a man was somehow able to drive off with the vehicle, KXAS-TV reports. After it was taken from the station, the apparatus next was seen in southeast Dallas County.later in the afternoon, and police began to give chase when the driver refused to pull over.
The pursuit involving Dallas police, Dallas County sheriff's deputies and Texas Highway Patrol troopers continued for just about two hours, with the driver sometimes heading into oncoming traffic. Although the dangerous maneuvering was done on purpose, the driver of the ambulance was able to avoid other vehicles.
When the ambulance reached the city of McKinney, the driver tried to elude police by navigating along residential side streets and even cutting across yards.
Eventually, the ambulance appeared to bottom out on a curb, and the driver abandoned the ambulance to try to flee on foot. The man's escape also was hampered by his attempts to keep his pants from falling down.
The chase finally ended in a fenced area, and the man was apprehended by police.
Details haven't been released yet identifiying the man and outlining charges against him.
