An engine company from Alameda County became a casualty Friday night when it got caught in a sinkhole during a water emergency.
A broken water main was reported in Castro Valley around 7 p.m. and water began flowing into homes near Seven Hills Road and Santa Maria Avenue.
Alameda County firefighters were summoned to the scene to help dig trenches to channel the waters away, the Contra Costa Times reported.
A 10-by-15-foot section of street gave way below Engine 7 and swallowed it swallowed a front tire.
Heavy tow equipment was brought to the scene to remove the apparatus from the hole.
According to Alameda County Fire Department's Twitter account, seven engines, two trucks, the heavy rescue, two battalion chiefs and several reserve firefighters assisted in the cleanup efforts.
No injuries to firefighters were reported.
