A Dallas family is without a father and husband Monday following the death of a veteran firefighter.
Dallas Firefighter Stanley Wilson was killed after becoming trapped in a massive condo blaze.
Wilson leaves behind a wife and two sons.
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings told NBC5DFW he told Wilson's sons their father was a hero, and they should be proud of him.
Fire and rescue personnel saluted as their colleague's body was removed and loaded into an ambulance.
Wilson called a 'Mayday' saying he was lost and trapped, and didn't know where he was in six-alarm condo fire.
Dallas Fire-Rescue Firefigher Jason Evans told NBC 5 that message was the last transmission.
Fire crews have had to pull back on fighting the flames of the massive fire while they search for him.
The huge fire is keeping crews from searching the building for any injured or trapped residents inside the building.
In an e-mail sent to local media just after 6 a.m., Evans wrote: “Fire in the main building is still burning and efforts are being made to cut the fire off at the breezeways, located on the West end of the building, before adjacent units are affected.”
It’s unclear, given the early hour, if everyone escaped their condos when the fast-moving fire broke out.
“There are a lot of people out here, but “a lot are from neighboring buildings.” It will take a while to discern whether anyone is missing.
