Wayne Township Firefighter Rod Lambert, 52, was paralyzed after the rig crash that claimed a colleague.

Funeral services are set for Aug. 20 for a Wayne Township firefighter who died of injuries sustained in a 1995 fire truck crash.

Firefighter Rodrick 'Rod' S. Lambert, 52, died Saturday, the department announced.

He has been paralyzed since the wreck that claimed Firefighter Ronald Deer.

Lambert and Deer were in the back of the engine and were not wearing seat belts when the wreck occurred. The raised roof of the engine separated from the cab when it overturned and they were thrown from the engine, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

The engine was responding on a box alarm which turned out to be a false alarm.

Lambert had been with the department for three years when the crash occurred.

"Over the last 30 years, Rod was a fixture at Wayne Township fire stations, visiting often and bringing his incredible spirit and smile, inspiring others to never give up on life's challenges," Wayne Township Capt. Eric Banister wrote in a statement.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 20 at Olivet Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.. The service will begin at noon.

Interment will be in the Hero's of Public Safety Memorial at Crown Hill Cemetery.
